Organic Feed Initiative

At Livestock Haven, we understand that quality nutrition is the foundation of animal health. The Organic Feed Initiative was born from our desire to reduce chemical inputs and give our animals the most natural diet possible.

We began by dedicating part of our farmland to grow organic crops such as maize, barley, and alfalfa — all without synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. Our goal was to create a closed-loop feed system, where what we grow directly sustains our animals.

To ensure the best nutrition, each feed type is tailored to the unique needs of our livestock. Mini Highland cattle receive protein-rich silage, Boer goats get legume blends, and Duroc pigs enjoy nutrient-dense grains. We also introduced composting and soil-enrichment programs to maintain soil fertility and long-term productivity.

Challenges

Maintaining consistent organic crop yields during unpredictable weather
Preventing pests naturally without chemical sprays
Balancing nutrient levels across different animal feed formulas
Managing labor during planting and harvesting cycles

This initiative has strengthened our independence from industrial feed suppliers and improved the quality of our meat and dairy products. It also reduced feed waste, cut carbon emissions from transportation, and reinforced our commitment to sustainable, organic farming practices.
